Description (Service) Promotes recognition of and interest of the history of sports in Barrie
  • oversees inductees whose portraits are housed at the Allandale Recreation Centre
  • holds ongoing displays and conducts research about sport in Barrie
  • volunteer organization
  • Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony takes place on the first Wednesday evening in October at the Barrie Legion
  • acts as custodian for Greg Johnston-Shayne Corson Trophy awarded annually to Barrie's outstanding amateur athlete
  • other awards include:
    • Jean McCann Unsung Hero Award recognizing outstanding contribution to the development of sport in the City of Barrie
    • John Crawley Award for long term service
    • Memorial Trophy is awarded annually to Barrie's most outstanding coach/official of the year
    • Team Recognition plaque is presented annually

Eligibility
  • Membership: Anyone who supports the objectives of the society
  • Athlete of the Year nominees must be amateurs as defined by their sport governing body and must be recognized as residents of the City of Barrie and surrounding area, though they may reside elsewhere for training purposes
  • Memorial Trophy is for a coach, sports volunteer or team official who has gone above and beyond the call of duty in assisting athletes and athletics, must reside in Barrie or be involved with a Barrie-based group or team
  • Jean McCann Unsung Hero Award is for anyone who has given outstanding contribution to the development of sport in Barrie
  • John Crawley Award is for anyone who has given long term service to sport in the City of Barrie
  • Team Recognition plaque is awarded to a team from the past that has successfully competed at the provincial and/or national level
