Description (Service) OAS pension is a monthly payment available to seniors aged 65 and older who meet the Canadian legal status and residence requirements
  • Funded out of the general tax revenues of the Government of Canada

Eligibility
  • Age Requirements: 65 year(s) and up
  • Canadian citizen or legal resident
  • residing in Canada for at least 10 years after reaching age 18
  • can be deferred for up to 60 months (5 years) after the date of eligibility
  • Canadian citizens living outside of Canada who lived in Canada for a total of at least 20 years after reaching age 18, see website for details

Application
  • Older Adults who are eligible are enrolled automatically
  • a notification letter will be sent by Service Canada the month after turning 64
  • if no letter is received, apply in writing by mail
  • application and required documentation available on website
