Description (Service)

Role of the Landlord and Tenant Board (LTB) is to provide information to residential landlords and tenants about its practices and procedures and about their rights and responsibilities under the Residential Tenancies Act, and to resolve disputes between most residential landlords and tenants 

  • LTB Customer Service Officers
    • process applications, schedule hearings, and provide information to the public about the Residential Tenancies Act, Customer Service Officers do not provide legal advice

  • LTB Dispute Resolution Officers
    • are available to help landlords and tenants, co-ops and co-op members resolve their application by mutual agreement, rather than going to a hearing where a member decides the matter for them

  • Member of the LTB
    • is a decision maker (sometimes called an adjudicator) who holds a hearing where landlords and tenants have the opportunity to tell the Member information that is relevant to the application
    • the Member will review the evidence that is presented and the law that applies to the case and make a legally enforceable decision

  •  Information pamphlets, applications for landlords and tenants, forms and notices are available on the website and at the ServiceOntario Centre at 34 Simcoe St, applications and supporting documents can be filed at Simcoe St but there is no in-person service in Barrie for people wishing to speak to someone regarding the legislation

City of Barrie by-law 82-137 requires the maintenance of adequate and suitable heat for rented or leased dwellings/living accommodations within the City of Barrie, call the Building Services Department at 705-739-4212 for inquiries about this by-law
