Description

Description (Service) Landfill site includes:
  • Waste & Recycling Depot - located at the top of the hill, past the scalehouse, open Tue-Sat 8:30 am-3:30 pm
  • Household Hazardous Waste Facility - located at the top of the hill, past the scalehouse, open Saturdays only, 8:30am-3:30pm
  • Recycling Depot - located at the bottom of the hill, seasonal hours, Tue-Sat 8:30 am-3:30 pm, check website
  • Environmental Education Centre (programs are on hold until the second half of 2024, check website or call for more information)
    • designed to provide a venue to educate students with regards to environmental sustainability, much of the material used in the pavilion illustrates the 3R's (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle)
  • City of Barrie residents can bring recycling and organics to the landfill site however, the same sorting requirements curbside are in place at the landfill site and recyclables and yard waste must be separated from mixed loads of garbage to qualify for No Charge consideration
  • electronics, organics, recycling, household hazardous waste, metal, cardboard and tires on or off the rim are accepted at no charge
  • Items banned from the landfill are waste from outside the City of Barrie, liquid or hazardous waste; refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, water coolers or dehumidifiers that have not had the CFCs (chlorofluorocarbons) removed (contact an appliance repair company for removal certification, or appliances containing CFC's can be brought to the Barrie Landfill Site where they will be decommissioned by a licensed technician for a fee of $15 per appliance)
  • Diaper Disposal Program - Residents can dispose of maximum 2 clear bags of diapers per week at the landfill (maximum weight: 20kg/bag) from May 1 to October 31 annually at no charge; bags must consist solely of diapers, proof of residency is required

  • Waste and Recycling Depot: Tue-Sat 8:30 am-3:30 pm; the lane way to the landfill site can accommodate up to one hour's worth of traffic; due to high volume of traffic on Tuesdays and Saturdays, it is recommended that you arrive at the landfill site prior to 3 pm to ensure entry
  • Household Hazardous Waste Facility: Sat 8:30 am-3:30 pm
  • Recycling Depot: Tue-Sat 8:30 am-3:30 pm, check website, hours vary with season, call or check website for hours
  • Environmental Centre:hours vary, programs are on hold for the first half of 2024, call or check website for updates
  • Landfill closed on statutory holidays which include Good Friday, Canada Day, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and after noon on Dec 24 and Dec 31
