Description (Service) Monthly non-taxable benefit to Old Age Security (OAS) pension recipients who have a low income and are living in Canada

  • for assistance accessing services, complete an online request at Service Request
  • for people who do not have internet access call 1-877-355-2657 Mon-Fri 8:30 am-4 pm
  • for assistance in person, make a request for an appointment by filling out the service request form at Service Request

Eligibility
  • based on income
  • applicants claiming common-law marital status must submit supporting documentation
Application Service Canada implemented a process to automatically enroll seniors who are eligible to receive the GIS
  • if you can be automatically enrolled, Service Canada will send you a notification letter the month after you turn 64
  • if you did not receive a letter from Service Canada informing you that you were selected for automatic enrolment, and you wish to start receiving your OAS pension and the GIS at age 65, you should apply for them right away, see Guaranteed Income Supplement for information on how to apply
