Description (Service)

Fort Willow was developed as a half way point between Kempenfelt Bay and the Nottawasaga River enabling a continuous trade and transportation route from Lake Ontario through to Georgian Bay for many centuries

during the War of 1812, the British military utilized this portage route for the transport of supplies and personnel as the lower lakes were occupied by the Americans
Festival of Fort Willow is hosted by the Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority, Springwater Township, the Friends of Fort Willow and the Barrie Rotary Club
- Annual event is held during the last weekend of Septmeber each year where visitors can experience what life was like at Fort Willow pre-European contact, during the Fur Trade and the War of 1812
- visitors can enjoy various re-enactors as they interact with festival visitors and demonstrate their daily tasks including blacksmithing, carpentry and candle making, children's entertainment and hands-on historical displays
