Description

Description (Service)

Help adults to improve their reading, writing and math skills, to use these skills in everyday living, to reach their own goal of employment, apprenticeship, further education or greater independence and to improve confidence and self-esteem

Sessions are on a one to one basis or in a small group

  • adult literacy tutoring is individual, confidential and geared to the student's needs and abilities
  • meetings are usually held at the Barrie Literacy Council
  • Training: Information Sessions are mandatory. The first one in 2024 will be January 16, 7-8:30pm over ZOOM
    • Tutor Training Workshop follows on February 6 through March 12 (Tuesdays) 7-8:30pm over ZOOM
    • Call for details on other dates
  • criminal background check with vulnerable sector screening mandatory for volunteers
  • offers free in-person Computer Basics Classes from time to time, call or check website or Facebook page for upcoming classes

Barrie Literacy Council is fully open with health and safety practices in place

  • Strongly encouraged to wear mask and sanitize hands
  • Staff continue to disinfect student/tutor work surfaces
