Description

Description (Service) Responsible for preserving the peace, preventing crimes and offenses, and apprehending offenders under the crime investigations branch Services include:
  • Police record checks
  • Operation Identification, a program designed to discourage theft of valuables by identifying them with an electric engraver which may be borrowed free of charge from the Police Service
  • Community Alert Network, a media release subscription service, on the Barrie Police Services website, permits visitors to subscribe without fee to receive Barrie Police Service media releases as they are posted
Community Services Branch
  • provides speakers and programs to schools and private groups on theft, fraud, elder abuse, traffic safety, bullying, drugs and related topics
  • runs confidential online bullying reporting system with area schools * see pink 'report a bully' button on website
Victim Crisis Assistance and Referral Service
  • offers support, information and referral to victims and witnesses immediately after a crisis has taken place
Citizens Online Reporting
  • all non-emergency incidents can be reported using the online reporting too
  • even if it is a few days after the incident, it is always worth reporting so that Barrie Police has an accurate record of safety issues in our city
  • anything non-emergency related from graffiti, to damage to a property or theft can be reported

Security Camera Registry
  • Security Camera registry can assist officers in quickly determining the location of security cameras that may assist in investigations.
  • Camera Registry is a completely voluntary, free initiative that only asks residents and businesses to complete a brief registration form to identify the location of their external-facing cameras
  • If an incident happens in the area, police may contact you to ask if your camera captured any relevant footage

Marine unit
  • equipped with two police boats, which patrol Kempenfelt Bay and Lake Simcoe full time during the summer months and selective weekends during the spring and fall
  • trained marine officers respond to distress calls, perform search and rescue operations, provide enforcement of all boating regulations and provide general safety, equipment and boating information

Police Record Checks
  • City of Barrie residents, Youth (under 18) are ONLY permitted to obtain a record check for positions working or volunteering with the government (Municipal, Provincial, and Federal)
  • this does not include organizations receiving government funding
  • government agency information will be required to submit the record check
Application Parade Application
  • Parade package is available at the police station, Ext 2110, which includes an application form
  • applications should be received by police one month before parade date
Building Tours
  • Tours of the building may be arranged for organized groups such as school groups and youth groups by calling the schools unit
  • tours may be arranged for other groups by calling the shift sergeant at Ext 2111
