To report suspected abuse of domestic animals (pets) For animal cruelty complaints of abuse or neglect, the Provincial Animal Welfare Service (through the Ministry of the Solicitor General) has a 24/7 animal abuse hotline. Information on the Provincial Animal Welfare Service can be found on the website.
Call 9-1-1 for the following situations: - to report incidents of animals in distress or locked in a hot or cold vehicle
- any attack by an animal to people or other animals that requires emergency medical attention
- to report a dog or cock fighting ring
- if you witness an act of animal cruelty
Animal cruelty can be also reported anonymously with Crime Stoppers - 1-800-222-8477 (1-800-222-TIPS)
For information or to report a missing or stray cat or dog, please call your municipal animal control officer.
Municipal law enforcement is not responsible for the removal of nuisance wildlife (ie skunks, racoons); this is the responsibility of the home owner.
