Curbside Collection

  • Garbage
    • Barrie households serviced under the City of Barrie municipal curbside collection program receive 2 bags or 2 cans garbage pickup every other week

    • Residential households receive unlimited collection of recycling boxes every week

  • Organics
    • Residential households receive unlimited collection of organics bins every week
    • Organics bins must not exceed 20kgs (45lbs) per bin when placed out for collection

  • Yard Waste
    • Collection of yard waste occurs weekly in Jan, April, May, June, September, October, November and every other week in July, August and December, no yard waste collection in February and March

Composting
All leaf and yard waste collected curbside throughout Barrie is brought to the landfill where it is composted into organic matter, residents can also start their own backyard compost


Reusable Clothing & Textiles

Curbside Textile Collection Weeks

  • two curbside textile collection each year, in late spring and early fall, visit City of Barrie's Alternate Waste Disposal Options for details
    • During the collection weeks, any type of plastic bag marked textiles is collected curbside on specified days. Notice is posted at City of Barrie Curbside Collection and the event is included in the Community Events Calendar
    • Collected textiles directly support Cornerstone to Recovery, a non-profit charitable agency that provides community-based recover programs for individuals and families experiencing and impacted by addiction

Textile Collection Bins

Textile collection bins are available at City facilities, 100% of net proceeds combat homelessness and addiction and support mental health in the community:

Battery Collection

  • City of Barrie, in partnership with the County of Simcoe, picks up batteries at the curb during the first week of Nov, check website for specific dates each year, Battery Collection Week
  • residents can place batteries curbside next to their blue box for collection on their regular collection day
  • Barrie residents receive battery collection bags in the mail in Sep of each year
  • extra battery bags are available at the landfill's household hazardous waste (HHW) drop-off locations on Saturdays only from 8:30 am-3:30 pm, bags will be left on the HHW table for residents to take at the Recycling Depot (lower area) or HHW depot (upper area) of the landfill
  • residents can also use a plastic sandwich bag for batteries and place that at their curb on collection day if they have extra dead batteries that don't fit in the battery bag that was mailed out


Electronic Waste

  • electronics, including cell phones can be take to the Barrie Landfill site for disposal in the elctronic recycling program for free
  • another option for recycling electronics is Recycle my Electronics, search for a drop-off location nearest you


Hazardous Waste
Residents can bring in any household hazardous wastes and/or batteries for safe disposal through the Household Hazardous Waste Depot located at the Landfill Site

  • all hazardous material should be in original containers


Alternate Waste Disposal Options

  • for information about where you can take other materials such as furtniture and building materials, refrigerators and freezers, mobility/assistive and healthcare devices, sharps and pharmacceuticals for reuse, recycling, and proper disposal, visit website

    • Residents are required to place garbage at curbside on their collection day by 7 am to ensure collection
    • Barrie Landfill Tue-Sat 8:30 am-3:30 pm
    • Hazardous Waste Depot, Sat 8:30 am-3:30 pm
      No delays in collection on statutory holidays, except for Christmas and New Year's Day. If regular collection day falls on a holiday, collection will occur on that day.
