Description (Service)

Builds and rehabilitates houses with the help of the homeowner and volunteer labour, using donations of money and materials.

  • brings communities together to help families build strength, stability and self-reliance through affordable homeownership, local families
  • Construction is a partnership venture between volunteers, future homeowners and the community
  • Habitat for Humanity ReStores accept and resell quality new and used items, shopping at a Habitat ReStore is a socially conscious decision, as funds generated are used to fund local Habitat for Humanity homebuilding projects

Volunteer Description Engaging individual volunteers and connecting with local schools, service clubs, businesses, and government departments links us to people with diverse skills, cultural backgrounds, ages, and abilities that strengthen our capacity to meet the needs of our ReStore, Events and Builds. 
 
Whether you are looking to develop new skills, share your expertise or meet new people, we invite you to volunteer with us at our Habitat ReStores, on our build site or on a committee. There are volunteer opportunities 7-days a week, and we offer a wide range of ways to get involved with flexible hours. We welcome everyone 14 years of age and up to join us in helping families in need of a safe and decent place to live.

Eligibility Criteria to be a Qualifying Family Partner includes:
  • family income and family size limits, call or visit website for information
  • Simcoe County resident for at least two years
  • live in substandard and/or inadequate housing or poor living conditions
  • must complete 500 volunteer hours
  • proven job or income stability and able to make timely house mortgage payments
  • cohesive stable family unit
  • willing to be a partner with Habitat for Humanity
