Barrie Food Bank is a charity serving the Barrie and Innisfil communities. Our mission is to provide no-cost food relief to individuals and families in our community who are in need and support them on their journey toward well-being.

Barrie Food Bank is seeking 3 to 4 committed volunteer Board Members to join our passionate, dynamic Board of Directors. We encourage applicants from a broad range of backgrounds, perspectives, and lived experiences to reflect our diverse community, clientele, and stakeholders. This member will support Barrie Food Bank’s work and mission and guide its governance responsibilities.

Duties

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE BOARD MEMBER(S)

 Below are key accountabilities of Board Members:

·         Familiarity with the organization’s mandate, vision, mission, and values; 

·         Review and provide input on policies and by-laws;

·         Provide input on the strategic plan for the organization;  

·         Attend and engage in Board and Committee meetings and contribute to the discussion; 

·         Represent the organization in public and private forums;

·         Help the organization grow by fostering relationships among our stakeholders, suppliers, funders, and public officials; 

·          Respect and treat all matters related to Barrie Food Bank with confidentiality and sensitivity;

·         Support fundraising activities as required.

• Demonstrates commitment to the organization’s values of Respect, Compassion, Independence and Self Sufficiency, and Service Excellence 
• Meet the corporation’s by-law requirements:  
• The person shall at the time of their election or within 10 days thereafter, become a Member of the Corporation; 
• the person must be eighteen (18) years of age or older;  
• the person must be in full agreement with the Constitution; 
• save and except where permitted by law, the person and any of their Family Members must not be an Employee, Agent or contractor who is receiving remuneration, either directly or indirectly, from the Corporation;  
• the person must not be an undischarged bankrupt or become one at any time during their term as a director;  
• has not been found under the Substitute Decisions Act, 1992 or under the Mental Health Act to be incapable of managing property; or has not been found to be incapable by any court in Canada or elsewhere.
Commitment Length Long Term (More than 1 year) ; Director's terms expire after 6 years.
