BarriePaws for a Cause is being held on June 20, 2026 from 11 am-4 pm, apply to volunteer by June 5, 2026
Description:
Volunteers will assist with the setup, execution, and takedown of Paws for a Cause, a Pet Walk-a-Thon fundraiser for Samaritan House. This is a fun, outdoor event supporting vulnerable individuals and families in Simcoe County. Volunteers will be assigned to a certain role, you will not be expected to do all of the duties listed below, those are the duties for all of the roles.
Expected Activities:

Help with event setup (tables, signs, water stations, etc.)

Assist with participant registration and check-in

Guide and encourage participants along the walking route

Hand out water and refreshments to participants and pets

Assist with event activities (games, raffles, prize tables, etc.)

Answer participant questions and provide general event support

Help with event cleanup and takedown after the walk concludes
Volunteers will lead a gentle functional fitness program designed for community members aged 55+
- The purpose of the program is to:
- Increase and maintain strength, coordination, balance and flexibility
- Improve health and energy
- Improve mobility and independence
- Prevent falls and decrease falls risk
- Meet new people and socialize
A Volunteer House Legaue Coach supports a fun, inclusive, and positive soccer experience for players of all skill levels. The coach focuses on player development (led by our technical director), teamwork, sportsmanship, and creating a safe, enjoyable environment on and off the field. Commitment level is minimum 1-hour, 1x per week, but can increase based on the volunteers preference. Roles:
- Run weekly practices (provided by BSC) using age‑appropriate drills that develop basic skills such as passing, shooting, dribbling, and teamwork.
- Coach games by organizing lineups, ensuring fair playing time, and guiding players with encouragement and positive instruction.
- Model positive behaviour by promoting respect, sportsmanship, and fair play at all times.
- Ensure player safety by following club policies, monitoring equipment, and responding appropriately to injuries or incidents.
- Collaborate with other coaches and volunteers to support smooth game days, set up fields, and manage team logistics.

Familiar with osteoarthritis of the hip and/or knee

Be able to bend and squat repeatedly

Be able to lift exercise equipment (pedal bikes, risers, chairs)

Mon and Wed 1:15 to 3:45 pm and/or

Mon and Fri morning 8:45 to 11:15 am

Additional time may be helpful to assist those in need of computer registration with GLA:D Canada at BCHC
- Help Set up the area according to event, ie. Tables and chairs, or just chairs.
- Decorate room according to the event Ask staff what can be done.
- Knock on each resident’s door and invite them to the program.
- Help bring residents to area
- Help if needed for resident drinks and or snacks
- Support resident(s) to designated area. Take attendance and give to program staff.
- Help clean up area and place tables and chairs back to how was before
